Jill Ireland was born Jill Grosvenor Decker in White Salmon Washington, raised rural Maryland, and further educated in New York City and Honolulu. She has traveled extensively and always has had a passion for the tropics, falling in love with Maui and making it her home in 1987. Jill has a great love of nature and is an avid hiker, biker and runner. She devotes much of her time to gardening, stone masonry, ceramics, woodcarving, and of course painting. Inspired by the lush colors and vivid contrasts of light and shadow she tries to capture this tropical splendor on her canvases.
Her work as been selected for the Aloha Airlines cookbook and calendar, Hawaiian Airlines first class menus, and Artists of Hawaii calendars. She was a finalist in 1995, 1996, 1997, for the Maui Chamber of Commerce ‘Artist of the Year’, and won the award in 1998. She won the prestigious Lahaina Poster Contest and people’s choice award in 2000.
Her work is in collections worldwide, and can be seen in galleries in Hawaii including; Images Gallery in Lahaina, Maui, Simon-Jon Art and Design, in Lahaina, Dreams of Paradise Gallery in Hilo, Maui Art Gallery in Kihei, and Kaukini Gallery in Kahakuloa Maui.
